Statistics from the German ecosystem as of August 2024

The number of FinTechs is stagnating. So far this year, six new companies have entered the market, but at the same time four FinTechs have closed and six others have been acquired.
Funding is slowly picking up again, at least in total volume. However, the number of funding rounds (41 so far this year) might end up at an 8-year low.
The strongest verticals are still insurance, payment & remittance, and blockchain & digital assets.
Banking is still the FinTech vertical with the highest ecosystem valuation of almost €11 bn, followed by Payment & Remittance and Insurance. The overall ecosystem value is almost 54 billion euros.
N26 still tops the list of German FinTech unicorns with a valuation of 8.5 billion euros, followed by Trade Republic and Scalable Capital.
