Our partners participated in the Asian Financial Forum 2024 in Hong Kong
03.02.2024
Our partners Marquesa Leung and Jochen Biedermann participated in the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) 2024 in Hong Kong in January. The 2024 edition of the Forum focused heavily on themes of technological innovation, sustainable finance, and the role of financial centers in supporting economic transformation.
After jointly publishing the Hong Kong FinTech Report in October 2023, our partners met with the FinTech Association of Hong Kong (FTAHK) to discuss future activities. Neil Tan, FTAHK Chairman, introduced them to FTAHK members exhibiting at the Forum.
On behalf of the World Alliance of International Financial Centers (WAIFC), our team also organized an international delegation visit to Hong Kong. The WAIFC delegation met with Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government, covering topics ranging from virtual asset regulation to the development of the Greater Bay Area as an integrated financial and technology cluster.
Panel discussions covered topics including Hong Kong's development as a leading Web3 and virtual asset hub following the introduction of a new licensing regime, the competitive positioning of Hong Kong versus Singapore for regional FinTech headquarters, progress on the e-HKD pilot programme, and the medium-term outlook for cross-border payment infrastructure in the Greater Bay Area.
The Forum also served as an opportunity to deepen FinTech Consult's relationships with institutional investors and family offices active in the region. For more background on the Hong Kong FinTech ecosystem, see our most recent report on FinTech in Hong Kong.
